14,000 tickets sold in under one hour with Bontgenoten

Bontgenoten Festival is a Dutch summer festival with a loyal audience and a sharp visual identity. When the 2026 ticket sale opened, 14,000 tickets sold out in under an hour, with 13,100 purchased through Innercrowd's WhatsApp Shop. Through an integration between Innercrowd and Weeztix, the full purchase flow ran inside WhatsApp, while Weeztix handled order processing, payment and access control behind the scenes. Web studio BORING built the custom front-end for the public sale.

Background

Bontgenoten is a Dutch summer festival with a loyal audience, a distinctive visual identity, and a reputation for selling out fast. Held in the Netherlands during the festival season, the event has built a dedicated community across consecutive editions, with returning visitors making up a significant share of each year's sales. The festival announces its line-up just two weeks before the event, meaning fans buy on trust, which makes a fast and frictionless purchase flow essential. Bontgenoten’s brand runs through every part of the experience, from the visual language to the tone of voice, and the team treats every visitor touchpoint as part of that experience, including the moment a ticket is bought. For 2026, that meant rebuilding the full ticket flow as a seamless extension of the festival itself.

Expansion and Growth

As Bontgenoten has grown, so has the operation behind it. For 2026, the festival brought together three partners to deliver a ticket flow that matched the brand's ambition: Weeztix for ticketing infrastructure, web studio BORING for the custom front-end, and Innercrowd for a WhatsApp-based presale ahead of the public sale. The 2025 edition used a custom front end, with the standard checkout widget still bolted in, creating a slight break at the point of conversion. For 2026, the team went further on both fronts. The main sales channel became Innercrowd's WhatsApp Shop, powered by a Weeztix integration: fans pre-registered, received a personal shop in WhatsApp, and completed their purchase without leaving the app. BORING continued to develop the custom front-end for the public sale window.

Challenges and Solutions

01

Pre-sale activation via WhatsApp

Bontgenoten wanted to reward returning visitors with early access to tickets, both as a thank-you and to build sales momentum before the public sale.
Solution
WhatsApp Shop via Innercrowd

Through an integration between Innercrowd and Weeztix, a WhatsApp Shop was launched for the pre-sale. Returning visitors received an email linking to a pre-filled landing page, while new fans completed the registration themselves. Everyone received a WhatsApp confirmation with details about the pre-sale. When tickets went live, each registered fan received a personal WhatsApp Shop. Ticket selection, quantity, and payment all happened inside the chat, no redirect, no form fields, no platform switch. 13,100 of the 14,000 tickets were sold through this channel, reducing the public sale to a short window for the remaining allocation. Because each WhatsApp Shop is linked to a single phone number, the system also acts as a natural barrier against ticket resellers. Read the full Innercrowd case study.

02

Keeping the brand consistent through the entire purchase flow

In most ticketing setups, the checkout switches to the platform's standard interface, breaking the brand experience at the exact moment a visitor is about to convert.
Solution
One seamless custom flow

Together with BORING, the entire purchase journey was rebuilt as a single environment. Typography, colour, tone of voice, and layout stay consistent from the first page through to the confirmation screen. All ticketing operations from queue management to payment processing, ticket delivery, and access control continue to run on the Weeztix platform. The separation between the commercial front-end and the operational back-end gives the festival full creative control without introducing operational risk.

03

Handling peak demand through WhatsApp

Selling thousands of tickets in minutes requires infrastructure that can handle the spike without breaking the experience.
Solution
Seamless queuing and back-end processing

Innercrowd managed the queuing on its side, distributing buyers steadily into the WhatsApp Shop. Weeztix processed all orders, payments and ticket delivery on the back-end. The two systems operate independently, so even under extreme demand the purchase flow stayed fast and stable. The result: 14,000 tickets sold within the hour without technical issues.

04

Upselling as a natural part of the flow

Standard ticket shops offer limited upselling options. Add-ons are typically squeezed into the checkout as an afterthought, making them easy to miss or feel out of place.
Solution
A dedicated upsell step

A custom step for lockers was built between ticket selection and checkout, styled identically to the rest of the shop. Because it sits naturally in the flow, visitors experience it as a logical next step. The same structure now opens the door to additional add-ons in future editions, including merchandise, parking, and upgrades, all integrated into a single branded experience.

05

Tracking and data ownership

With a standard widget, tracking is limited to what the ticketing platform provides. Bontgenoten wanted full visibility into how visitors move through the shop and where they drop off.
Solution
Full-funnel analytics on their own domain

Because the entire flow runs on Bontgenoten's own domain, the team can implement custom tracking at every stage. They can see exactly where visitors abandon the process, which products attract interest, and how checkout adjustments affect conversion. Those insights feed straight back into the next edition, turning the ticket shop into a learning tool rather than just a sales channel.

Conclusion

"For us, the festival feeling starts with the first click during the ticket sale. It's not just a technical process; it's the moment where marketing becomes revenue. Especially in those first minutes, which often set the tone for the entire edition, you build trust in the details. That's why we made a deliberate choice to be one of the first festivals to design the full experience ourselves, fully in line with our brand, with trust and consistency as the priority."
