At Weeztix, we thrive on those moments when ticket sales skyrocket. But with great sales come great responsibility. Peak sales, those sudden surges in ticket demand, are the moments that can make or break a successful sale. When managed well, they’re a celebration. When missed, they can put immense strain on your sales.
Here’s what every organiser needs to know to keep ticket sales smooth, secure, and stress-free.
What are peak sales?
A peak sale is a moment when a large number of potential visitors attempt to purchase tickets simultaneously, for example, when you first launch ticket sales for your events. These moments bring incredible energy and buzz, but they also place intense demands on any ticketing system. That’s why we’ve built scalable infrastructure, innovative queueing technology, ensuring high performance, uninterrupted uptime, and a fair experience for all potential buyers.
To handle this kind of high traffic, our systems are designed for maximum uptime and stability, even under pressure. And when organisers inform us about upcoming peaks, we can take additional steps to optimise performance and keep the buying process fast, fair, and frustration-free for everyone.
Even in extreme cases, our automated systems maintain order and fairness. Every visitor gets placed in a transparent queue, ensuring first-come, first-served access and protecting against unfair advantages.
To do that, we need to understand the two types of peak sales you might face:
1. High volume, high demand: Multi-stage tickets
This is the classic festival or concert launch. Thousands of fans rush to grab Early Bird tickets. Within seconds, tickets are reserved, but it can take 30 to 45 minutes before they’re actually paid for. And because ticket buyers are hoping cheaper tiers will become available again, they wait… and wait…
The result is that sales stall, shoppers drop off, and momentum is lost.
Weeztix Tip: When it’s clear a ticket tier is essentially sold out, mark it as sold out, even if a few reservations haven’t converted yet. It’s better to skip selling a handful of Early Birds than to freeze the entire flow. Those unclaimed tickets can always be re-added to a later tier.
We’re also happy to help manage this flow together with you, so the right ticket stages move at the right pace, keeping energy high and the buying process smooth.
2. Low volume, massive demand: Limited tickets
This is the “golden ticket” scenario: just a few tickets, but a tidal wave of traffic. Within seconds, every ticket is reserved, and users are stuck playing a waiting game.
We recommend the following:
- Limit ticket quantity per order (e.g. 2 tickets max) to spread the chance across more fans.
- Shorten the reservation time. People will have less time to reserve tickets, so the turnaround time will be shortened.
- Reduce pending payment time. Normally, unpaid tickets can stay in limbo for up to 4 hours. For peak sales, we can responsibly reduce this to 5–10 minutes.
Important: If you expect a high volume of Credit Card, PayPal, or Sofort payments, please let us know. These payment methods may require different handling times due to banking systems taking longer to process.
How Weeztix tackles bots
Ticket bots are a real threat during peak sales. These automated programs try to scoop up tickets faster than any human can click. They ruin the fan experience and make it harder for real customers to buy tickets.
While bots have been around for some time now, recent legislation is starting to catch up. In the E.U., the use of ticket bots became officially illegal in 2022. The law prohibits bypassing technical protections like queues and limits, and requires professional resellers to identify themselves transparently on resale platforms. Although enforcement is still catching up in many regions, these laws are an important step forward, and they support the efforts we already take to protect your ticket shop.
At Weeztix, we take this very seriously. Our systems include multiple layers of bot protection, detecting suspicious behaviour in real-time and stopping automated traffic before it disrupts the experience for genuine fans. Our team is also continuously improving our protections from bots, so you can feel confident that every buyer has a fair shot during those high-demand moments.
The peak sale checklist
Want to avoid last-minute chaos? Here's what you can do:
- Give us a heads-up about upcoming peak sales. The earlier we know, the more we can do to ensure a flawless launch.
- Use email to announce the sale. It’s more predictable and scalable than social media alone.
- Link out to your ticket shop instead of embedding it via iframe. This reduces strain on your own site and lets our systems do what they do best.
- Enable your Live Sales Dashboard. Find it under “Live Sales: Linkie” in the App Library for real-time insights and support.
In summary
With the right preparation and the right partner, peak sales aren’t something to fear; they’re something to celebrate. Communicate with us, utilise our tools, and trust that we’re here to help you deliver a seamless ticketing experience, no matter how intense the rush on your tickets becomes.
